Film levels for very young audience (2 to 7 year olds)
Hey all,
I am mostly a TV mixer that does the occasional film mix. A quick question to all of you, but mostly aimed to people that have mixed content that it is aimed to a very young audience (2 to 7 years old).
The broadcaster I currently work for is repackaging TV content of cinema release. So, there are not a lot of moments without dialogue and music.
I mixed in a smaller-than-Dolby-certifiable, but calibrated at 82Leq(m). I have used this room to mix before, so this post won't deal with room differences. I am using the Dolby Media Meter.
The program happily measured at 82Leq(m). But I am a bit concerned about the levels thinking the nature of the content (TV compression, relentless sonic and visual events) and the age of the audience. My gut instinct says that 79 to 80 Leq(m) might feel a bit more appropriate.
Any ideas and comments would be appreciated.
