Default IDE or SCSI for ProTools program install??

I just upgraded from a 9500 to a blue and white G3 with the ATTO SCSI card from digi. I have 4 scsi drives and one IDE. Is it best to install ProTools on one of the SCSI drives, or install it on the IDE and use the SCSI drives 100% for audio file storage??

Currently the operating system and ProTools are installed on one of the SCSI drives, but unless I dismount the IDE drive the whole computer locks up when launching PT. Any thoughts on that problem??

Default Re: IDE or SCSI for ProTools program install??

Hi there I went through a heck of a time geting my drive configeration sorted, but here is what I learnt (in short ) about drives in B&W g3 (which is what I use for my 001 set up)

There are different versions of the B&W G3 some will run two IDE drives with noproblem some need an ata 66 card. you can tell by the mounting brackest which yours is.

The IDE drive in the the earlier versions will allways be the start up drive, i mean that the mac looks for that first then scussi drives. It will not work to put system files on to a scussi and record on to an IDE drive because the Mac wants the IDE drive to be the system drive. I had all kinds of crashes when I tryed that, all kinds of errors. I would rcomend use your IDE drive as your sytem drive, use you scussi for audio (forat with atto if needed)Andd all should be good

Cool
