Default PT writing empty audio files to 2nd I/O

No audio is being written to the drive attatched to the 2nd I/O even though the waveform appears in the edit window. If you play it back there is nothing... opening the respective audio file in SoundDesigner reveals this: the wave form has been recorded in the top waveform view, but in the larger view there is only a straight line. Files recorded before this problem arose will not playback in a PT session although they will play in SDII.
