Static on Playback (Protools 6.0, Mbox

I'm running a G3 900 iBook w/ 256mb of RAM, OS10.2.8 and just installed ProTools 6.0 to run with my Mbox.

I opened some tracks I had done with PT 5 and the only sound I get during playback is static. My waveforms look normal and if I bounce my tracks, they're normal. Did I misconfigure something?

I thought that maybe I had it set up for a digital output, but from what I can tell, I have not. Where should I look?

Lots of threads on this. Plug the mBox in after your iBook has booted, not before.You should invest in some more ram too ...

Also look into upgrading to PT 6.1.1 (6.1.2 has issues with Bounce to Disk, so don't go that far, stop at 6.1.1)

RAM is definitely on my shopping list. I've been looking around for good prices.

Forget about finding good (ie. the cheapest) prices on RAM-- if you buy cheap RAM you'll most likely have issues with it. Do yourself a favor and avoid the headache of troubleshooting and sending stuff back-- buy it here or even here. You may pay a few extra $$$ more than the cheapest stuff, but it's more than worth avoiding the potential hassle.

All RAM is not created equal. Both of the sources above provide an extremely reliable product. I've never ordered RAM from OWC, but others on the DUC have recommended it (I have oredered other stuff from them with no issues). I highly recommend Crucial as I have personally installed it in a number of Macs and have never had an issue with it. If you don't want to go either of those routes, remember one thing-- avoid Kingston.
