Default Presonus Faderport

Hello.

As I start to get more and more involved in learning the mixing process - I’m wanting to use as actual fader to write automation instead of a mouse…

I checked out the options from Avid - but they are a bit more than I can justify right now.

I did come across the Presonus Faderport V2 (single fader). This seems like a reasonable option for me at this time in terms of functionality and cost.

Anyone use this and thoughts on its integration with Pro Tools?

Thanks

Sparky

I’m running the ORIGINAL version on PT 2023.6 (on MAC VENTURA, which isn’t supported, but I plugged it in and went to work!) I mainly have mine because when I do a “punch-in,” I have an actual button to punch. (Or mash, if you’re from the South.) It’s worked splendidly on Windows, works great on MAC. Go for it.

Haha yes we happily mash buttons here

From what I've seen the Faderport V2 is improved over the original. "Integration" with PT is still very limited as it is with any HUI controller. But it works for fader and basic controls.

Thanks for your insights sw rec and smurfyou

While checking out some user videos just now - came across a couple of people comparing the Fader Port V2 to the Behringer X-Touch One

Any thoughts on the Behringer?

Thanks

My experience with Behringer is, lower price point at entry, but prone to unexplained failures at the worst possible moment. I’d stick with the Presonus. Infinitely more reliable.

I've had a FP1 (pretty good) and a FP2 (quite a lot better!) with Pro Tools. You don't get 100% of the features with PT but it works great for me. The buttons feel good - just make sure you've set it to HUI output for PT (see the manual - takes about 15 seconds.)

Never used the Behringer. On sight it looks very decent but they have that reputation mentioned above.

I have an FP2 that’s sitting in a box unused and unloved. There was something about it that I found annoying but I can’t remember what it was now, I think it might have been frustration at getting it to choose the correct channel. I’ll set it up again and see if I can remember what the problem was.

Was it because automation was disabled on the selected track? That's why I quit using my FP1. When I was just tracking, I'd enable it. But I had to remember to disable it as soon as I started mixing. After a few years, it just wasn't worth that hassle anymore.

Yeah… definitely leaning towards the Presonus unit.

Thanks
