Default Probably Stupid Question (Sonar Cakewalk related)

I had someone ask me today if I could open a Sonar Cakewalk recording session in my PT LE. I don't have any experience with any other software, so I didn't know what to tell him, but he said his session was being sent to him on a DVD disc. Is there a chance that I could pull up the Wave Files from his session into PT??? Any suggestions?

Default Re: Probably Stupid Question (Sonar Cakewalk related)

If the session was made in Sonar, you obviously will not be ablt to open it in PTLE. Sonar can save a session in the *.OMF format, and if you bought the Digi option for *.OMF files, then you would be able to open the session. But I believe I have read that the OMF versions of PT and Sonar are not fully compatible. Somehow, that doesn't surprize me.

Probably the easiest way to view his session, is to have the Sonar guy export all the tracks as wave files. Tell him to exort each track as a 24bit wave file and at your desired 44.1 or 48 khz. He must select the "total" track so that you also get any space or silence at the beginning of the track. (Left clicking on the track number in Sonar will do this) Then just import the wave files into PTLE and they will line up correctly. You won't get any automation or anything with this method, but you get the basic files. This method will work with any two audio programs that will otherwise not read the session data.
