Should be worth the wait. Supposedly they're gonna be 6-core and 12-core models and don't be afraid to check the refurbs when the new ones are announced. The day the Unibody MacBooks were announced I picked up a previous generation (one that was a current generation the day before) refurbed 15" MacBook Pro for just less than what they were asking for the "new" unibody 13" models. So I'm betting, if they have any left over refurbed Mac Pros, you could get one for a nice deal. I just can't promise it.

That what I did a year ago, got an 8 core 2.8 GHz at a great price and have been very happy with it. I run PT 8 LE with a 003R.

I find myself with the same dilemma, should I go for the current generation Nehalem, or wait for the Gulftown? I have been thinking about the 8-core 2.26GHz version, which I could get on a discount of 350EUR of the normal asking price (guess that is something like 450-500 US $).

Currently I am dividing the workload between a MacBook laptop and a 4-core AMD Phenom desktop, but I really hate working on the PC so I´ll go for the Mac Pro. I believe the 8-core should have more than enough firepower, even for the years to come (taking in account that I´m mixing a record on a dualcore MacBook, on the limits though. The pc stays ashamed in the dark corner of the room . But as always, the next new thing keeps knocking on the door. Here are my questions:

-how much can one anticipate the prices of the previous generation models to drop when the new one is launched? Or is the current discount worth taking advantage of? (I might be even looking for a bang-for-a-buck deal there instead of a new machine)

-I´ve read many discussions about the Nehalem MPs, and believe that by now there aren´t compatibility problems with Pro Tools? Am I correct, or is there something I´m not aware of? I´d like to get the machine out of the box and working, and not have to wait 3 months waiting for an update to fix something.

-Any new information on the launch of the new line-up from Apple?

Thanks for any input!

edit: wow, been a while since I last posted, looking at my signature...
