O1V96 vs OctoPre or Digimax
Has anyone here used the O1V96? I am looking at different pre's and AD converters for use with a 002R. It looks like it a good deal since it has 12 mic pre's and ADAT optical out, and has limited use as a control surface. but I am wondering if it would be a sacrifice in quality of the mic pre's and AD converters compared to the sound quality of units like a Octopre with ADAT card or a Digimax.
Also if you have a 16 input session at 88.2 or 96k with 8 analog inputs can you use 8 digital inputs of ADAT at 44.1 or 48k? |

Re: O1V96 vs OctoPre or Digimax
I haven't used the 01v96 but I was in the exact position about 4 months ago. And allmost bought the 01v96 for the same reasons you mention. From what I've been told it has been greatly improved from the original 01v. But I'm not sure of the mic pre quality. I ended up going with the Digimax 96 and I have not regreted it. Between that and my new Command/8 I'm having a blast.
Good Luck.

My only experience is with the Octopre. I've been more than happy with it's performance.

Re: O1V96 vs OctoPre or Digimax
Well, I've been using a Digimax LT for over a year now and still consider it to be the best buy I've ever made. It is an extremely solid Pre with very quality converters; it sounds awesome. It's got all the gain you could ever ask for and sounds so darn clean and transparant, it's done a fantastic job on everything I've ever used it on. I give it a huge recommendation to just about anyone; it's the best bang for your buck around. I've heard very mixed reviews about the octopre, but am yet to hear of one person not liking the Digimax LT or 96k. That's my 2 cents.

Re: O1V96 vs OctoPre or Digimax
if you have the bread, get the Yammi! the pre's are just fine as well as the converters (digimax, octopre, 01V96 will be difficult to tell the differences) plus the yammi has built in effects (great for drums) and as a control surface, its even more designed for PT's than the original 01V.

Re: O1V96 vs OctoPre or Digimax
If I was looking to go with a digital mixer the DM-24 sounds better and has more of a quality build, still the 01v96 is a major improvement over the original 01v.
The added features of a digital mixer as compared to the 8-ch units, will either a great help or added burden if you find it's routing and setup to be overly complicated. So keep in mind how you like to work when comparing the 2. |
