DIGI001 as \"The Soundcard\"
Can you use the 001 as the soundcard for all of your apps(games, dvd, 24bit sound files)?

Re: DIGI001 as \"The Soundcard\"
The Digi001 comes with a 2-channel wave driver, so it can be used by any application which uses the standard wave audio API. It can also be used by DirectSound applications via the DS-to-wave translation layer which is built into the operating system. The wave driver supports 16 and 24 bit audio natively, and 8 bit audio can also be played if the correct ACM codecs are installed. So, the short answer is: yes.

Re: DIGI001 as \"The Soundcard\"
Ricky,
There is really nothing to set up once the WaveDriver is installed and configured to be the preferred device in the Multimedia Control Panel>Audio Tab window. The audio will route through Outputs 1 & 2 from the Digi001 hardware. Brent |

Re: DIGI001 as \"The Soundcard\"
The wavedriver readmes for the AMIII and Digi-001 should be able to answer most of your questions about the wavedriver. The readmes may be found on the Pro Tools LE CD=ROM in the WaveDriver98 directory. Here's an excerpt from the readme that talks about selecting the Digi-001 channels used for playback/recording:
"Wave Driver Settings Dialog: Ch 1-2 Format control. Here you may choose between different types of I/O. When set to Analog, you can record into analog ins 1 & 2 and play back through both analog outs 1 & 2 and the S/PDIF RCA outputs. When set to S/PDIF, you can record into the digital S/PDIF RCA inputs. When set to ADAT Optical, you can record into the first two channels of the ADAT optical input. When set to S/PDIF Optical, you can record into the S/PDIF optical input. [See Sync Mode in the I/O Setup Dialog description below for info on syncing to the digital input stream.] In S/PDIF, ADAT Optical, and S/PDIF Optical, you can play and record monitor through both the respective digital outputs and the analog outputs." As for system sounds, here's another excerpt: "We recommend not associating system sounds with the "Select", "Open Program", and "Close Program" events. (System sounds are accessible via the Sounds control panel.) The Windows Default sound scheme does not have sounds associated with these events by default. If you often encounter "Error -6010: Cannot Acquire Hardware" errors, and "Digidesign Digi-001: Chan 1-2" is chosen as your preferred playback and/or recording device in the Multimedia control panel (Audio tab), turning off system sounds may fix the problem. To turn off system sounds, go to the Sounds control panel and select "No Sounds" as your sound scheme. Press OK to save your settings and restart Windows 98. Alternatively, you may play system sounds through another soundcard on your system. To do this, make sure your other soundcard is chosen as your preferred playback and recording device in the Multimedia control panel. Restart Windows 98 and select system sounds to be played through this soundcard from the Sounds control panel. (If this attempted fix to the Error -6010's does not work, please see the WaveDriver Settings dialog section about workarounds to situations in which the WaveDriver Settings dialog cannot be opened.)"
