rqstudio described exactly what I experienced, but in reverse. I have an 003 and picked up a mini for another setup. Win XP recognized it, installed the drivers....works like a champ. No reinstall needed.

THX for the confirmation info HeySchlitz...my 003 comes in a few days. As I said I will report back here with success or failure. If it does work as has been posted here it makes sense that it should, since in fact someone might want to have both pieces of hardware available for use...at least a one or the other situation.

rqstudio and HeySchlitz...you da mans! The switch was stupid easy as you both said. Even easier in that Vista/Pt 7.4cs7 didn't even ask for 003/FW drivers, when I hooked it up...they must have been installed at the initial PT setup. I did have one issue that I'll mention FTR...when I started my FW drive, after having PT and the 003 communicating, they stopped...perhaps because the system was seeing two 1394 peripherals for the first time. I just did a reboot and it's been fine since then. I do make sure that the FW drive is on before I launch PT. Again FTR this is never an issue with my MAC rigs, where I add drives all the time to sessions that are running. I'll have to pay attention to this oddity and see if it happens again as I integrate the 003 into my studio more fully...wordclock, I/O snake, lightpipe etc.
For those thinking of this switch...do it! The 003 is immediately better sounding and more pro feeling than an Mbox (I'm refering to the 1, 2 and Mini, no experience with MBpro)...don't get me wrong the MB has its' place and I love my MB Micro for doing fixes and mobile editing on a laptop...but the 003 makes my Vista music rig feel and sound more like my HD rig. Thanks again for your help and experiences.

Wilson
