Default multimonitor support

Does PT11 fix W7 or W8 support for dual monitors?
That is, truly independent windows for mix, edit etc.

Nope, still the same... one parent window which you have to stretch over the screens and then resize individually mix and edit. And the same windows are floating as in previous versions: transport, mem locations, undo etc.

Yup, kinda lame, I have 3 displays and it's a pain.
And the thing is that I switched to a notebook as my main machine and it has 2 graphics cards, different of course... The two external displays are on separate cards so PT will not remember that I have stretched the main window over two displays, not even with alt+F4. Have to resize every freakin' time I run PT.

Dunno if this is a general windows thing when you have two different GPUs. Anyone know if Skootch can handle that?

I have a single card and it still forgets the config. on a regular basis and spreads the mix or edit across both monitors.
Fairly involved to fix I guess.
I had a monitor die and had to get by with one for few days - painfully slow workflow.

Have you tried Alt+F4? It worked for me on my previous desktop PC, with 2 GPU cards (although the same model). I had 2 displays then and PT9 and PT10 remembered the setting.

This combo seems to work in PT11 also, but I cannot use it, presumably because of the two different graphics drivers.

I have close with alt+F4 and it does remember the config. for the next session.

The problem is when I open other windows or a PDF viewer.
I'm on a single card with 2 identical outputs.

Not sure if Skootch would fix it or not.

Maybe PT 12

Based on PT11's capability, would you guys favor one large monitor over multiple monitors?

I have a 24" dell and a 22". pro tools runs on the 24 while any plugins like Waves PAZ or Master bus compressor run on a 22" for reference.

I launch sessions without any issues, it recalls the same configuration.

I used to have 3 22" across with pro tools stretched across all 3, really looked cool but I realized that it was a bit of an overkill

2 monitors is enough for me, That's my opinion

I think 2 at a minimum.
I use one for mix/ plugins and one for edit
