Default Why is PT 12 Connecting to Google/Facebook/Twitter/DoubleClick?

Even after I let ProTools 12 HD sit for a while, the CPU usage is constantly fluctuating.

I tried turning off wifi and then ProTools started showing the spinning beach ball until I turned wifi back on. Then the beach ball stopped. I repeated it several times and got the same results.

Then I installed Little Snitch and ProTools was trying to connect to dozens of places - Google, Google Analytics, Twitter, FB, DoubleClick.net and tons of others.

Is ProTools's need to collect data interfering with my ability to work? Because when I prevent that from happening, I get the beach ball.

Absolutely unacceptable.

Wow twitter? No need to tweet in a session......talk about a production killer.

There should be a global preference to be able to toggle those features off and on

Pro Tools should not be initiating connections unless you are doing something 'web' related. We can look at the logs to investigate so I started a case for the OP to provide more info.

I installed Little Snitch and it doesn't report any network activity/connections for Pro Tools until I do something like sign into My Account (Marketplace menu) or select Avid Audio Forums (Help menu). This is normal behavior since I am initiating action that uses internet.

Still waiting for a response from the OP on the support case.

Confirming - Same here. (meaning same as Jeffro) no issues whatsoever.

ProTools should not be initiating any third party connections from within the app, or especially while a session is open.

It should be an option for me to disable wifi without causing ProTools to hang until I reenable it. That doesn't happen all the time, but it has definitely happened where disabling and enabling wifi affected whether or not ProTools displayed the spinning beach ball.

There's simply no way that it's acceptable for an app that's intended for professional use to be mining data.

There's nothing at any point that suggests you're using a freestanding web browser from within a DAW. I don't know of any DAW or any app that does that.

I've used Adobe's Creative Cloud. That installs an app that interacts directly with Adobe and does not initiate any third party connections.

ProTools contacts Overloud every time it launches. I assumed it's verifying my license though I thought that's what my iLok was for.

I haven't received any communication from Avid or you outside of this message, so I have no idea what kind of response you're expecting.

Agreed, and in my testing the only time it does is when I initiate by selecting something that requires an internet connection, like signing in to My Account (from the Marketplace menu).

An internet connection is not required to run Pro Tools. I also tested this by disabling WiFi (I have no Ethernet connection BTW) and had no issues using Pro Tools (was running Pro Tools HD 12.1 on Mac 10.9.5).

It's not mining data, it's connecting to the web as requested.
