004?
Do you think AVID will release an 004, or do you think they've gone out of the hardware business at this price point for good?
I like my 003, but I am beginning to think of a back-up product, an eventual replacement. I have an 11R, but that doesn't have near the input capability I'd like. Steve

Re: 004?
This is something many of us have been asking about for years. Nobody knows(or if they do know, they can't say). I'd be happy if Avid made a firmware update for the 003 that would turn it into a control surface to use on an HD system

Re: 004?
Thanks Dave. I'll find a suitable replacement, I'm sure, but something I just thought about is that I utilize the 003's monitor routing so I'll have to find a new solution there None of the solutions I've seen out there have something like this (maybe I'm blind).

Re: 004?
This is based on nothing (I have no insider knowledge on this), but I think the Pro Tools Duet and Pro Tools Quartet are what Avid have in that range, I haven't heard anything about an 004 coming..

Re: 004?
To add a bit, I am a bigger fan of separating the interface from the controller. I am really interested in the Behringer X-Touch, but nobody seems to know when it will actually be available. I suspect they maybe pulled it to do a re-design and maybe give it a path for expansion(having 16 or 24 faders would be dandy)

All that to say that I'll investigate that X-touch if it comes out, thanks.

Re: 004?
I'm torn on Behringer, sometimes they make good bang for the buck devices (ADA-8000), and they generally have a TON of features for the price. But, they don't have a great reputation for quality (I use a Behringer headphone amp that has 2 blown outputs)..

Re: 004?
My previous Behringer experience was much the same. Good "bang for the buck", but their early Chinese-made stuff was pretty unreliable(I also had a headphone amp give up on 1 channel. But since they built "Behringer city", their manufacturing has become so "state of the art" that other industries are looking there for ideas! Been using X32 consoles(full-sized, Compact and rack/S16 for over a year now and have been more than content. They do everything they claim, and the Compact still works, even after getting a heavy dousing from a tent failure in a torrential downpour(only issue being a white band up the right side of the LCD). Also spent a few weeks on a Midas M32 with a pair of Midas stage boxes(same as S16, but the Midas Pro preamps) and a digital snake. Gotta say, it works great and sounds great. Are there things I might change? Yep, but I can say that about every digital console I have worked on

Re: 004?
I wonder how many people's heads would explode if Behringer bought the Pro Tools IP. Many customers wouldn't know where to direct their rage.
