Default I need a low-cost mic and pre-amp to go into PT. Any Ideas.

I bought an Oktava MK319 mic from Guitar Center. What do you guys think of this mic? I can't go spending thousands of dollars, but I want some decently-nice vocals to go into Pro Tools. Is there a pre-amp that anybody recommends for the MK319? Is this mic trash? Tell me how I can make this sound good. I just have it running into a yamaha 01v right now. I don't have PT yet. Thanks

the best bang for the buck pre i've seen/head is the tubesence from aphex. 2 channels of nice tube pre for around $350. It is nearly a classic by now.

I've seen that one and many others lately on eBay for good prices.

What about the mic mentioned? I'm also interested in the MK319.

Yeah, somebody tell me what they think about the MK319. Be honest.

Someone else posted to another topic I started and said he thought the Oktavia was transparent, but a bit "tinny", lacking mids to give vocals presence. I saw somewhere else that Oktavias vary widely in quality from mic to mic.

I think I'm going to head in a different direction and get a Rode NT-1 or KSM32 or AT4047 if I find a good price. Those last two are gettting up there in cost though.

Hardnox - Define low-cost. As you know, in pro audio one person's low cost may not be another person's low cost.

Right now - due to the exchange rate - U87s can be had new for around $1800 according to the guy I buy all my stuff from www.paudio.com

Now might be the time to grab one for your collection. I know I am.

I have lots of Pre Amps. The first one that I bought was a Studio Technologies Mic-Pre-eminence. Bruce Swedien recommended it to me and it still sounds great and gets used on lots of stuff. It's about a grand for a stereo pair, maybe less if you shop.
