Default Re: Upgrade to PT12 : $99 or $199 ?

I just did the $99 upgrade from 11.

Here's a link to a thread http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=373581
with screenshots.

Here's a link to Benoni's thread which tells all. Check out the video.

Your'e ARE surrendering the PT 11 license, but what you're getting in return is a PT 10/11/12 license and links to download each separately.

No, you don't need to uninstall PT11 first as the installer will tell you that the new version will uninstall PT11.

Do you like the eleven? I was looking at the two now and also wondering if I buy the 199 now to get the plugin but then downgrade next year to just the 99 do I lose the plugin? Kind of curious on that part. Im intrigued but there are lots of plugins and i still like to mic my boogie rk, but there are time that going in direct and using a plugin can be appealing.

Yes if you downgrade you lose the license .... they are rented, you have them only for as long as you keep renewing the support plan.

Im just curious if anyone has upgraded in the last week or two specifically can confirm what their license said. See below:

Pro Tools 12 upgrade with Annual Upgrade and Support Plan

Includes Pro Tools 12, 11, and 10 licenses and activation (must surrender your current Pro Tools 9–11, Pro Tools Express, Pro Tools M-Powered, or Pro Tools MP licenses)—download required (includes software/plug-in installers and user guides)
1-year Annual Upgrade Plan (includes access to all new Pro Tools releases, renewable annually)
1-year Annual Plug-in and Support Plan (includes access to bonus plug-ins and support, renewable annually)

Pro Tools 12 upgrade with Annual Upgrade Plan

1-year Annual Upgrade Plan (includes access to all new Pro Tools releases for one year), renewable annually
Avid still hasn't updated the website. At one point in time, when they first split the 'upgrade' and 'support' elements of the original 'upgrade and support' plan, they sneakily (i.e. with no warning and with only an easily missed description to that effect) dropped giving out a 10/11/12 license bundle if you only bought the 'upgrade' plan.

There was a big outcry about that, and Avid finally relented so they are now back to giving out the full bundle of licenses whether you opt for one or both plans.

No doubt the website will eventually be updated to reflect that in due course ... unless, of course, they have internally set a deadline for this .... maybe once 2016 comes around it'll be back to a PT12 only license for 'late and cheapskate' upgraders ... and then the website will be correct again.

If I hadn't upgraded, but was planning to, and was going for the $99 option, AND wanted to retain access to 10 and 11, I'd be upgrading sooner rather than later, just to be sure of getting all three licenses in the bundle.

And I'm guessing that the 12.3 commit features, along with clip transparency and batch fades, and Track Freeze 'coming soon', are probably worth paying $99 before the end of 2015 for most people.
