I'm sorry, I meant the D: drive (not folder).

I can work perfectly from the D: drive (playing audio, bouncing offline, etcetera), until I try the real-time bounce. This makes me think it is a problem with Pro Tools, not the harddrive.

It really bugs me because I used to always real-time bounce (final check-up, no need to print hardware, etc).

A couple of things:
Your d: drive is a physically separate drive and not a partition right?
How about instead of realtime bounce you just record to a new audio track?
One question you haven't answered: is your d: drive going to sleep somehow? I don't want to hear that it works okay for everything until you go to realtime bounce. And a corollary to this is is anything in your system going to sleep during the bounce?

Something that just hit me is is your cpu doing any kind of speed stepping (speed variations) that might be load dependent?

My harddrive is not going to sleep.
I don't know what you mean by CPU stepping.
I have never heard of that.
If it helps: I use all the factory standard settings of Windows 8.1 .

Something that may help as well: my Windows and Pro Tools regularly crashes completely (blue screen). Every time that happens the blue screen says it is my EMUXMIDI interface. However, I don't really think it has to do something with the bouncing problem, because I can't use real-time bounce with the midi-interface completely disconnected either.

All in all I am pretty frustrated with the way Pro Tools 11 is working. I have never had any problems with the previous version I owned (PT9). Are the rumours true that PT12 is released so soon because PT11 was just too buggy to update?

Speed stepping (what you're calling cpu stepping) is just what I wrote - the cpu changes speed depending on the load it's seeing. Laptops tend to do that to save power and it's even found in some desktops.

Your last sentence has absolutely no truth to it. PT12 is bringing a bunch of new things to the party such that it warrants a whole new version number. There are supposedly going to be bug fixes/updates to PT11 coming but who knows what and when.

I have searched for speed stepping in the settings of my Windows 8.1 and I found some things that had to do with power saving. Everything was set to "High performance" by factory standard, so I kept it that way.

IIRC, Speed Stepping is in BIOS, not Windows.

Cheers,

Go through the computer optimization procedure. This includes getting into the BIOS and making adjustments.

Default Re: CPU crash when bouncing real-time

I have disabled Enhanced Speedstep® Technology in my BIOS, but the problem remains, unfortunately. While testing it out, I noticed something that may be a lead in this investigation. The real-time bounce won't shut down immediately, it just won't start the track. The counter will remain at the same timestamp forever, until I press escape. When I do press escape I get the CPU error which I already mentioned.

Any other suggestions?
