Yeah but, i’m happy with all i have expect the lack of power from the CPU. I find pro tools 11 realy great.
And like i said there is several different reasons why i don’t want to upgrade.

Thank you JFreak,

A second opinion in the same direction, and my comprehension which became clear, i like that !

So get a modern computer, with a modern CPU. Everybody upgrades eventually. Recent generations of CPUs have given us BIG power jumps, from Apple, Intel, & AMD alike. Upgrading to even a modern "mid-tier" computer will give you a huge CPU bump ... and recent "top-tier" CPUs will blow the roof off!!!

Hello EGS,

What you suggest, is a solution that cost 2500 euros (because moreover i should change my interface with all this upgrades). This is exactly what i don’t want.

In that case, you must make-do for now & save up for a proper hardware/software upgrade later.

Working with your current setup:
Have you done ALL (don't skip any) of the AVID recommended optimizations?
Have you done ALL (don't skip any) AVID recommended troubleshooting?
Audiosuite (and/or bounce out) some of your CPU intensive plugs?
Mixing at high buffers?
What error message(s) do you get when you max out the CPU?
Try the other good suggestions mentioned above (like affinity switch)?
Post a SiSoftware Sandra report?

Thanks EGS,

My brother who knows better than me in computer looked that kind of things.
But I will read this attentively (it seems to have a lot to read and to check and we didn’t checked tha avid website for this), but the most important is that i don’t have internet or an antivirus.

But do you realy think it will realy change a lot, instead of having more core, speed clock, and RAM … ?

I mix at the higgest buffer, but it’s true that my interface don’t go more high than 528 Buffer. When i think about, that should be replaced one day by an interface that goes until 2048 of course, but it’s expensive also a 14 track interface…

I didn’t understand what you say with « Audiosuite (and/or bounce out) some of your CPU intensive plugs » So i try to find out. Do you mean freezing the track ?
And that’s actually a good advice for me because until now, i didn’t thought about that, i didn’t know that pro tools did it… so yes for shure it’s seems to be realy practical.
Thank you !

The error message with my traduction from french is :
AAE-9173 « insuficient CPU power for pro Tools, try to desactivate or delete plugins Native.

I will find out with the others stuff you mention…

Just something to keep in mind, it isn't all about core count and clockspeed with processors. There are a lot of process improvements in newer generations, and also power consumption to keep in mind.

Just as a quick reference:

E5-2670 v3
Passmark Score = 13756
TDP = 120W

Dual E5-2670 v3
Passmark Score = 27512(est)
TDP = 240W

Ryzen 7 5700X
Passmark Score = 26755
TDP = 65W

Yea, and for 60W you would also get Apple M1/M2 Ultra (the highest end cpu).

Maybe it doesn't count, because it is only slightly faster than Ryzen 9 (7945HX) that eats 75W.

Newer hardware was designed with newer software in mind. Updating one and not the other could potentially be a big step backwards. Does it work fine now?

Probably not what you want to hear but...
If it were me I'd do it the other way round.

Updating ProTools gives you 10/11/12 and Studio on your iLok as far as I'm aware.
You can then use whatever works on any PC/Mac you want.

PT12 introduced track freeze which could also be very helpful in the interim,
while you decide on the computer spec.
