..with macdrive you can read and write to external mac hd`s , so that shouldnt be an issue , btw there is also a freewaretool (hfs explorer) which is not as comfortable as macdrive , but at least it allows to mount and read mac volumes.. since i have both mac and pc i use macdrive for this reason, hfs explorer works too if you only need to read the hfs volumes , at least the same funcionality as osx has with ntfs volumes.

When I had a PC setup, MacDrive unfortunately didn't read all my Mac FW partitions. It was a killer for me.
