Korg X5 - 002r -PTLE = no midi signal

External connections seem ok, midi i/o of Korg x5 to 002r, USB'd into pc (HP Pavillion). Get no midi signal. have messed with internal settings, read every manual and followed all of the posts that I could handle- no luck. Getting an audio signal plugging Korg into Behringer V-amp into mic/line 1. Do I have to run through reason or other software for midi capability? very new to me, i've been plucking strings not hitting keys. I want access to all of the options offered by midi, dammit.

Have you assigned the correct MIDI output and channel on the MIDI channel strip in Protools?

I believe I have assigned the channels correctly. A problem I have encountered is recognizing the midi device. Reading a PT manual by Jose Valenzuela, I'm told I'm supposed to have an Edit Midi Studio option under Setup, but it's not there. Did I miss something in installation or does that only apply to Mac's (I'm using PC)? I feel that I'm missing a step prior to channel selection, dealing with studio setup and I'm bangin my head against the wall. By the way, it's given that I am a dumbass on the subject and I appreciate patience. Also, does anybody have an opinion on the best school in the U.S. for this kind of subject (midi, recording, ProTools specifically)?
