Default Whats your step by step approach for post sound work?

Just re-starting on an old project and in order to get a bit more structure over my work i was curious to hear how other people approach theirs.
Of course every project is different (this one has a lot of location sound, no adr, probably quite a bit of music and im doing the whole post process by myself), but i still assume most people have somewhat of a step by step approach and it would be really cool to get some examples.

I think your question is too wide and vague. Be ing more specific will generate more replies.

I would recommend to start from the dialogue editing. This is one of the hardest goals to achieve as you need to be very precise and know how to make it right for the audience. People call it experience. There are no short cuts when it comes to dialogs. A well edited dialogs only sound good as stand alone without any backgrounds or fx.
Don’t use EQ when editing. Concentrate on editing only. Don’t use noise reduction. Leave it for the mix stage (even if its done by you).
You can and must use decrackling, spectral removal tools like iZotope RX as AudioSuite. But copy the original unprocessed as well.

When you are happy with your dialogs start with a sound design.
This is a whole approach as well as you need to know what standard you are working for: cinema (5.1 mix), stereo only, TV (might be 5.1 as well), internet.

Think about the foley, sfx and bg’s. Where do you get it from (someone records foley for you) and if you have enough budget to make it right.

But before you start:
1. Calibrate your room.
2. Make sure you are running in sync with a picture. This is not obvious at all.

Search some topics here on the DUC, how to proceed with it.

Good luck!
