Default Lagging Audio, PT10, Mbox2, New Macbook pro lion 10.7.4

Hello,
i'm having a problem with ProTools 10 and while playing back audio via any audio player in mac os by my mbox2.

In Protools the error occurs by a playback buffer error -6104.
If i play for example audio with itunes the playback lags after about 30 minutes of playing.

I found out, that if i plug out and in the usb connection of the mbox2 ProTools and Itunes will run again for about 30 minutes without any errors.
I can also reach this if i change the kHz between 48kHz or 44.1kHz in the audio utility called "audio equipment" or so in mac os lion 10.7.4.

Things that i`ve done to solve this problem:

- changed the usb port of my macbook pro
- installed the actual family driver for mbox2
- upgraded to protools 10.2
- reinstalled protools 10
- deleted the common files in the prefs./library
- reinstalled mac os lion

I've also to say that the mbox2 with my old macbook (late2006) with mac os snow leopard and ProTools 8.0.5 worked and still works fine although i don't use this setup anymore.

Hope you can help me with this problem.
Excuse my english.

Matthias.

I'm having a similar problem. I have an mbox2 which has always worked fine with my 2007 MacBook and Snow Leopard. Just upgraded my computer to a new MacBook Pro with Lion.

Now, I'm constantly getting drop outs or "CPU Usage is holding off USB audio" errors.

I'm beginning to wonder if the problem is the fact that the new MacBook Pros have USB 3.0 ports. USB 2.0 devices are meant to be compatible with USB 3.0 hardware, but I wonder.

Hey pdubber,
you are right. The problem has something to do with the usb ports. I connected after your posting my mbox 2 to an active usb 2.0 Hub with external power supply. This USB Hub is connected to my USB3.0 port at my new macbook pro and it works! I couldn`t test if the problem occurs again after some time of working but it works, now. Thanks for discovering this fact.
Matthias
