Default G5 Digital optical out into PT @ 96k solution?

Hi,

Been routing Itunes into PT using the dig out from G5 into optical dig input on the 192. But at 96k its obviously not working, just get bursts of audio! and there's no SRC for the built-in digital inputs!

So i'm flogging a dead horse right?

Chris

it works fine if you have the clock source as the G5 optical

Chris,

the 192 I/O’s Optical (ADAT) Input on the Digital I/O slot card — not the Enclosure one — features real-time sample rate conversion. In fact, with sessions at sampling rates higher than 48 KHz, the conversion feature is turned on automatically for Optical (ADAT) and T/DIF inputs on the 192 I/O.

IHTH.

What about going the other way. If I have a 98k session and I want to sample rate convert out of the 192 and into the optical input on the Mac? Does the Hosa converter work both ways?

Hey Steve,

being curious myself, I went and checked out the Hosa website. I searched high and low, and what I found are a decent variety of format converters, but no sample rate converters. Many of the format converters do work in either and/or both directions simultaneously.

IHTH.

you will still have to clock the 192 from the incoming clock no matter if it AES, ToSlink, or Spdif the G5 nor this converter has and external clock input

Hi Cris,

the 192 has automatic SR conversion asa. you get higher than 48. The reason you get those bursts could be a clock error. You would probably have to sync the mac to the 192 (192 Master) otherwise the WC wont be correct. I do this in my setup:

Mac going to tc.eleectronic fireworks via light pipe. The fireworks is slaved to the 192 directly via the 192's 48khz WC output. Finally the fireworks connects via light pipe to the 192. I havent found a reliable way of WC slaving the mac to my WC master that is why I had to put the fireworks in between. The problem was that in Audio Midi Setup the sync could be set to external but would somehow always revert to internal even though it had a signal.

Theoretically you could double wire (light pipe from 192 to mac and light pipe from mac to 192) in order to obtain sync but I could not get it to work reliably...

I think you will have put some kind of WC capable device in between... Dont you have some "old" device that you dont really use laying around like I had my fireworks?

Good Luck

Hi,

Tried this and got the message "clock source is out of range and has been reverted to internal clock"

Just to confirm, i am using the built-in enclosed sp/dif optical in on the 192 (not the digital card in the 192 which is already being used!!) i can't see any way to SRC this incomping signal?

I have optical connection both to and from the mac G5, i have tried setting the mac G5 to external clock, but it just reverts to internal clock straight away.
