PT Session saved as Unix file?

This has only happened to me once (this week)..
opened a project recorded 6 months ago from hard drive archive transferred
from original System scsi drives after session..
went to open PT session..but PT session icon does not appear..
insted it is a dark rectangle (with the name of the session)..
'Get Info' tells me it is a 'Unix Executable 'file..
of course I can't open it so I have to drag in all the audio files (which
were copied correctly in the audio files folder)into a new session
and rebuild the session using the spot function..
any ideas?

the drive was probably formated as a PC DOS drive and the resource fork has been stripped from the files. i've seen this when people buy FW drives that come formatted for PCs and they don't reformat with disc utlilty first. i found no fix. good luck.

Sometimes when ProTools sessions pass through unix/windows servers they end up looking like unix excecutables. Try adding ".pts" to the end of the file name and see if it will open. You might want to consider enforcing Mac/PC compatibility for all sessions.

and of course, instead of just clicking on the session file.. try opening the file from ProTools....

Thanks for the suggestions...it was saved to a pc formatted removable
drive so that may be the culprit..shall try the other suggestions too..

It's DEFINITELY an extension thing. We backup all of our PTHD Mac systems to an Avid Lanshare running on Windows XP, and if the extension IS NOT added to the file when it's backed up, you'll have issues like this when you restore. Simply add the .pts extension to your session files, .aif to AIFF files and .wav to WAVE files.

add a point "." and "pts" to the filename.

you can try it, but it didn't work for me.

added the " .pts" extension and voila..pro tools session icon
re emerged and can now open the session..thanks for your help...
