Avid transport vs. artist

I have been thinking about purchasing one of these and wanted to know the size of the jog wheel on the each of these items because the manuals do not give the dimensions. Are they basically the same diameter?

A lot of people have been saying they don't care for the small screen size on the artist. I'm just trying to figure out which one to get. Any help would be appreciated.

Not the same diameter, Artist is larger by a good amount. And the jog wheel on the artist transport feels pretty good, while the one on the Control doesn't feel as nice.

That dock sure looks exciting. You know when it's supposed to come out? Some have been saying early next year but does anybody know closer to the exact time? Would the iPad 2 (30-pin connector) be compatible with the dock or do you have to have an iPad air?

The transport has the ring shuttle around the jog wheel. Does the artist have that?

the Artist Control does not have a shuttle ring around the jog wheel. Its jog/shuttle wheel is smaller than the Transport. It takes a shift key to switch modes. It performs extra functions such as zoom. It's also unintuitive (this could be my old firmware).

Your best bet could be a Mix+Transport+iPad.

Hi,
as a long time user of an Artist Control I can say it's a bit dated now. Mine still works okay but I think the new Pro Tools Dock will be the next generation of intuitive control.

The Dock doesn't actually connect to the iPad. It has a tray for the iPad to sit in, but the iPad will use its own cable for power(not sure if the Dock has a USB port to provide power as nobody has shown the back of it). As for the "connection" between the iPad and Pro Tools, it appears to be the Control app on the iPad(with some updated features) and wifi.
