Default Upgrade Intel Core i5 13600K 6 P-Cores + 8 E-cores 5.1 ghz

I have a very old PC running a 4 core intel cpu on Windows 10.
My current project keeps stopping that tells me I have run out of processing.

I'm sure many of you have experienced the same at one time or another.

How many actual Cores will PT 23.12 actually recognize when I do the upgrade? All 14 or just the primary 6? I will also be upgrading the MB to X790 chipset and 64 gb ddr4 ram.

thanks for the help.

Allan

PT will recognize the cores, but is not that great at spreading the processing load across all the available cores. Therefore, single core performance is more crucial for PT; the i5-13600K should work well.

Hi EGS,

Thanks for the reply. I guess I went for a bit of overkill I ordered a i7-13700K. I was worried the 6 p cores 8 e cores of the i5 13600k weren't going to be enough since avid recommends 8 p cores.

The i7 has 8 p cores 8 e cores 3.4Ghz base 5.4Ghz turbo. I was really worried before you replied. 😁

I am matching this with 64GB DDR5 RAM at 6000Mhz and a ASUS
TUF Gaming Z790 Plus WIFI MB. The gaming MB is a bit more high performance.

The old system is a i5-2500K CPU @ 3.30GHz 2nd Gen CPU! So upgrading to a 13 Gen CPU is a good thing!

I hope this will set me up for a while.

Thanks again for the help. I'll let you know how things turn out. Everything arrives tomorrow.

I'm running an 3.6GHz 8-core i9 9900K and it's fine. The i7-13700K should be good.
