Default direct connect distortion

Having searched the answerbase and forums for help with this, I wonder if anyone else has had this problem:
nastily distorted sound from DC instruments
There are no peaking meters either on the instruments I have tried or on the inputs to pro tools

Any help much appreciated

wrong clock? 48k? 44.1k? Optical? Internal? SPDIF? I get this in reason if I change my clock to 48k.

No, no.
Its the HW buffer size. The CPU cant keep up. Increase the buffer size one step and your problems will be solved.

Which DC instruments are u using?
You don't mention what your computer set up is either - that might help.

We're running FM7, Absynth and MSP all through DC without any problems on a G4 733 MHz.

Good luck, Mike.

What version of DC and Stream Manager are you using?

The behavior you describe can happen you are using a version of DC with a 128 sample buffer:

"A side effect of the lower buffer size is a higher load on your host CPU. In extreme cases, you might not be able to reach the same level of performance achieved with the standard version of DirectConnect. If you experience excessive "low CPU" warnings, or even audio dropouts, we recommend going back to the shipping version of DirectConnect."
