Default New Avid Isis 1000 has my name on it :)

For about 18K USD - I have waited for this a long time!

The post community has been waiting for "bins" and a clip editor in PT for many years now. AVID can be proud that with the announcement of another piece of expensive hardware that they are moving closer to incorporating the real needs of their customers into their product line!

What do you gain with a 18k Isis that I can't do with a local or network hard drive in an audio facility?

I have 2 x Mediacomposers linked - one for Ingest/Playout and the other as Video Satelite, and a third one with editing next door - + 2 x Protools suites. I use SNS at moment - but very least you need to mount drive/raid as local drive to function properly on all 5 places - share files and share bins if you lucky - which is why the Isis make life a hell of a lot easier, used to be around 50Kusd entry point until the Isis 1000

Reckless Erik - this piece of gear competes head on with the pricing of Third party shared storage - but with the ease of Isis. I think it is a great move!

Fair enough if you have media composer rigs as well. If you are running just Pro Tools this is still overpriced, I just deployed an SNS EVO and it works a treat sharing across 4 mix rooms, 1 edit station and multiple laptops, all running pro tools.

For instance, having several workstations, video nle´s and daw´s connected and working from the disk arrays simultaneously, sharing workspaces, having terabytes of storage, streaming audio and video from AAF, have enough bandwidth for lots of data traffic, redundant automatic backups and mirror storage, be able to integrate ingest and playout systems into the equation etc.

Now go do that with a network drive

Being ISIS or not is not the issue, other systems like SNS EVO work fine as well.
Performance and security comes at a price, maybe some facilities workflow doesn´t justify that price though.
