Default Bounce to disk conversion Quality? Where?

Just upgraded to 5.1? Where is the option for the conversion quality from 24 bit to 16 bit? Yeah I changed the bit to 16 in the bounce to disk pop up, and I still don't see it. The manual says it like it's still an option on bounce to disk.

I have a Mac but I couldn't find the conversion quality change either. What I did to access it is: change the sample rate and then the conversion quality dialog box appears, after you change to better or best... then you will need to reset the sample rate back to were it was.

Well that's intuitive now isn't it . . .

They should change it back to the old way.

Thanks Ricco

The "Conversion Quality" parameter only applies when performing a sample rate conversion...it does not have a bearing on bit depth conversions.

When performing bit depth conversions, you need to only concern yourself with Dither. Bounce To Disk does not apply Dither by default. Therefore, when converting from 24 bit to 16 bit, it is good to instantiate a Dither Plug-in on your Master Fader before proceeding with a bounce.

What he's saying is.. When you upgraded to 5.1, your new sessions are now defaulting to 44.1k instead of 48k on the older version. (In the new session window you can change this) When you bounce a session from 24 Bit 48k to 16 bit stereo interleaved you will get the conversion quality button..

But riddle me this . . .

If I'm recording in 44.1k and 24 bit, and I bounce to disk at 44.1 and 24 bit, what is the "conversion" pop up that appears doing?

I'm not converting my sampling frequency or bit depth, so (just to beat a dead horse) in this case the whole tweakhead/best/etc. setting still doesn't even come into play. Right? Is this "conversion" just moving temp export files or something?

Thanks,
Laud

I had the same problem all you have to do is when bouncing to disk change settings to 16 bit and 44.1. But when I try to transfer to burn to a cd it willk not reconize files that I am trying to transfer!

Actually (to answer my own question), the conversion (when you go 44.1k/24 bit bounce to 44.1k/24 bit on disk) only occurs when going to weaved stereo file.

So I'm assuming the "conversion" is the two mono to single stereo, BUT the conversion quality (best/tweakhead/etc.) has no bearing in this case SINCE the conversion quality ONLY pertains to sampling rate conversions (as per DigiTech post) and NOT mono to stereo file merge.

Finally got it!!
