Default protools audio playback quality???

Hi there,
following thing I am experiencing.
I play the exact same Audiofile to compare. One thru protools (Timeline)
the other version picked from the Audio File Folder via snapper.

Both Versions run thru the mbox mini. As this is possibel with mbox and mac osx leopard.

This is a sound with a very agressive spectrum (sound fx)

played back via protools it sounds half as good as played back via snapper or ableton. It misses a bit of body and the stereo image is not so wide.
Imatched the levels and I am not clipping in both aps.

I alway had that feeling but with these agressive sounds I designed in Ableton it is becoming realy obvious to my ears.

how can that be....????

excuse my english please..

cheers tilman

O.K. here we go.

I had a quiet complex routing going on and the volumes where a bit
different. The Protools version was short before clipping. Or it clipped a little bit....

But... this can do dramatic change to the overall sound quality.
Nuendo for example does not clip that fast. Does that have to do with the
mixer bit depth resoloution? Is it better in other daws.
I´ll check it out....

It is not better or worse, you should keep a healty, reasonable gain structure. It's not the daw's fault.
You know, these are only tools, what really counts is the man behind.

///just make sure when you do does test that your are running in the same bit rate, a 24 bit conversion to 16 bit played on another player will sound very different with your PT 24 bit session playback and you will not be calibrated///so try running everything at 16 bit for this test/// good luck

ps: and yes stuff does clip like a moth""fu""er in PT so just keep it simple don't start mixing 48 tracks you will tweak your brain out so just keep it simple like under 24 tracks::: and you should check the TL mastermeter that comes with PT8.
