Default Strange 5.1 Master Fader Behavior When Bnc to Disk

This is a strange one:

When attempting a bounce to disk, or for that matter a bounce within the session itself, the 5.1 outputs go into this strange mode where all the outputs are jumbled, kinda of like hearing just reverb returns.

For example, if the 5.1 outputs are configured
1 = Lf
2 = C
3 = Rf
4 = Ls
5 = Rs
6 = LFE

when trying to bounce to disk or to a 5.1 audio channel, the output is

1 = nothing
2 = nothing
3 = garbage
4 = reverb return
5 = reverb return
6 = nothing

The problem ONLY occurs when there is a quick fade-in on the master fader immediately AFTER the bounce start point. Removing all level automation from the master fader eliminates the problem.

I can't tell you the things I started to troubleshoot before discovering this issue purely by accident. This problem doesn't occur with a regular stereo session.

Just wondering if anyone has come across this or is able to duplicate this behavior. Thanks.

Hi Jonathan,

Sorry it took so long to reply. I've been doing a lot of bouncing to disk....w/o master fader automation....
Except for some minor static electricity problems involving the 192 interface, the system is running fine other than the situation described in the last post.

PT 7.1cs4
192 I/O firmware v 3.0
Mac OS 10.4.3
PowerMac G4 1.25 GHz Dual Processor
Lacie FW drives using 400 Mb/s ports, formatted as per Digi's recommendations with journaling enabled.

Plugs:
Waves 360 Surround bundle
Waves IR-1 Convolution Reverb
Waves Renaissance EQ/Compressor/Reverb
Waves S1 Imager
Sony Oxford EQ w/GML option
Sony Oxford Reverb
Sony Oxford Transient Modulator
Eventide Legacy bundle
Digidesign Smack!
Digidesign Pultec bundle
Digidesign EQ 3/Dynamics 3
Digidesign Bruno/Reso
Focusrite d2 EQ/Compressor
Line 6 Amp Farm
IK Multimedia Amplitube
Elemental Audio InspectorXL
Those free Bomb Factory plugs

Time/date set correctly, power-saving features off, recommended fonts, etc. set as per Digi's instructions.
Digi databases on all drives and PT preferences trashed w/ restart.

Thanks,

Kurt
