Mbox Mini Disappears after 5 minutes

Alright so I've had an mbox mini 3 for about a year and a half now and I started to get problems about 4 months in. First it would randomly emit a very audible noise which would last for a couple of seconds and then it would go away. Now for the past few months I have not been able to use it as every time I plug it in over usb it will work fine for about 3 or 5 minutes and then suddenly it disappears without warning. The only way to bring it back up is to unplug and then plug it back in again.

I've tried it with different drivers on a few computers both pc and mac with the same problems every time. I really have no idea whats going on but it would be great to be able to use it again. Thanks in advance for any insight!

I don't know exactly how to help as I have Mbox 2's but really you need to put your spec on your post in order for DUC members to diagnose.

You could put it in a signature like I've got for example. (OS, PT, HD etc...)

Try upgrading to 8.0.5... I don't think your Mac and PT are compatible.

O.k so I did the 8.0.5 update in 10.6.7 during which I had to reconnect the mbox because the installation took more than five minutes. Now the box unfortunately does not show up at all. The power indicator does light up but there's no sign of it being recognized at all. To make sure I tried the update in Windows 7 as well, giving me the same result.

Hi, I'm no expert on the new Mbox 3's but here's a few points I've picked up.

1) The Mbox 3's shipped with PT 9 and PT10

2) This means that there probably wont be a driver for Mbox 3 in PT8

3) Therefore I recommend downloading Mbox 3 Mini drivers

4) Looks like you need to be running PT 8.0.5 so you might need to download that update if you haven't got it. But saying that I'd be surprised is the driver doesn't work on PT8.0.3...........

Like I said, I'm no expert on Mbox 3 and I'm happy with my non-iLok set up Pro Tools and Mbox 2's.

I bought mine right after it came out and at that time it did ship with pro tools 8. The problem doesn't seem to exist specifically with pro tools though. Even just in the OS itself the box will just disappear after about 5 minutes. I've been hoping that it might just be a software issue but it seems to be an issue with the box itself.

Have you installed the drivers in the link above?

If you have, and there's still a problem then it does point towards a hardware issue, but if you haven't, then I'd install the specific Mbox 3 mini drivers from the link above, reboot and then see what happens.

o.k so I tried the drivers from the link above but unfortunately it didn't make a difference,when I plug it in its still not recognized.
