7.4 to 8.0 upgrade path
OK, so I'm late getting 7.4 HD, but I don't yet have Leopard ....coming soon.
If what I've found on the 'net is correct, I can still get a copy of v7.4 for Tiger/Windows from a reputable online music store. It's still "in stock" or so they say. What is the upgrade path to 8.0 ....is the discount/free upgrade still available if I buy 7.4 now and upgrade right away? I can't seem to get an email reply from Digi Customer Service or Tech support. I would like to have 7.4 temporarily, and as a safety net, to postpone/avoid many of the issues others seem to be having with plug-ins, etc. I have too much stuff "in progress" to upgrade at the moment. The issue is not plugin compatibility with 8 -- rather, it's Leopard. BUT - since Pt8 requires Leopard, you're gonna have to face it sooner or later. Why bother with 7.4? If you have a 7.3 system that's stable (as I do as well), in my opinion, keep it on its own drive; make a new drive for Leopard/Pt8 and then simply buy pt8 and go to town, at your own pace... If you would go to 7.4, you will still have to deal with plugin issues when you take your machine to 10.5.x, and then learn pt8 as well... Sounds like more work than you need to do. PT8 has been stable as can be during my testing, with only a few days of sorting out plugs and hard drives and VI hosts and such... Many of us have been doing exactly this, and many of us have been discussing our successes. You have NOT heard from anyone who has done a clean system install and clean PT8 install and oNLY using qualified plugs complaining about compatibility. Some have been bitching about the color scheme, but that's not on-topic. Good luck!

Re: 7.4 to 8.0 upgrade path
I am a little foggy, but isn't 7.4 the first PT release with Elastic time? I have been using it so long I forget. PT 7.4 with OSX 10.4.9 and the latest CS is a pretty stable place to be and pretty much seamless upgrade from 7.3 (backup first of course). . . Not a bad place to wait for the dust to settle on PT 8. . .especially if you can grab 7.4 with an amnesty upgrade to PT included. . . Then you can be working with Elastic time in 7.4 and begin testing PT8. . .

Re: 7.4 to 8.0 upgrade path
Yes, 7.4 has elastic audio and works on Tiger. I really don't mind having to pay the full price of 8.0 if that is the issue ....I just want to have 7.4 before moving on to Leopard.
