Default MBox 2 gets no power through USB port??

Hi

I recently installed a new hard disk in my MacBook pro and tried to install PT on it to use with my MBox 2. Started with installing 7.3 but it asked my for a authorization code and my authorization code didn´t work (got 7.0 installer and downloaded 7.3 through digidesign as an upgrade). So I uninstalled it and installed 7.0 from the CD. When I tried to start it up so I could enter the code, PT asked for the hardware. I then saw that it wasn´t getting any power through the USB connection. I can see "digidesign MBox 2" in system profiler, but no LED´s light up on the MBox and PT doesn´t recognize it.

I have a MacBook Pro, 15", 2.16 GHz, 2G RAM,
Mac OS. 10.4.11
Trying to run Pro Tools 7.3

Can anyone help with this?

PT 7.0 will not work with an Intel Mac. You need at least 7.1.1. This is most likely the cause of the recognition/power problems you have outlined.

The PT 7.3 upgrade should be a full installer that does not need a prior installation of Pro Tools. I suggest that you log into your account to retrieve the authorization details and retry. If you're still having problems then maybe Digi CS can help.

Worked like a charm!
Installed 7.3 again and validated with the code on my digi account.

Thanks Phil for the quick reply and great advice!

I panicked because I didn´t think that not having the correct version of PT would affect power coming to the unit, as Tools does not need to be on for it to be available for use as a general sound card for the computer. I suppose it has something to do with the digi core audio driver. Anyway, you learn something new every day!

Thanks again.
Gunnar
