Final Cut, DV Firewire, 192 I/O=Out of Sync
Hi - Is it possible in Final Cut Pro to play video out through Firewire (XL-1 DV->video monitor) and send the audio out throuh the 192 I/O without having sync problems? I've tried adjusting the frame offset under the playback control tab, but to no avail. In the FCP manual, it says that FCP automatically adjusts for latency in the audio hardware as long as there is a proper driver for it.
Is there a recommended buffer setting in the Digi CoreAudio Manager? I can take the audio out from the XL-1, but I'd prefer to use my Digi hardware if possible. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FCP HD OS 10.4.6 PT 7.1 cs8 HD3 (non-Accel) and 192 I/O Mac G5 Dual 2.5 GHz Thanks.

Re: Final Cut, DV Firewire, 192 I/O=Out of Sync
well, i beleive that the issue is both the DV codec and the FW box. the Canopus has anywhere from 14-22 Qtr frames of delay...that's a lot! the delay i believe would be compensated for in the XL-1
do i need to make you aware of this? : http://www.syncheck.com/ and the attendant articles? afaik, you will have to offset the video, or, delay the audio... or, use the XL-1's audio outs.

Re: Final Cut, DV Firewire, 192 I/O=Out of Sync
Thank you, Tom. I read the info that site and it was very enlightening. I appreciate the link. 16 quarter frames in PT seemed to be about right, but when I'm in FCP I think I'll just go with the audio out from the XL-1 and keep it simple.
Thanks!

Re: Final Cut, DV Firewire, 192 I/O=Out of Sync
you're welcome.
consider seriously getting a Syncheck box. it is $200 (approximately) very well spent. for a post studio, it is like an SPL meter : essential! then you won't be saying things like, "16 qtr frames in PT seemed to be about right"; you will say, i KNOW that this setting is right! Richard did us all a great service when he took the initiative to apply his talents to designing a simply to use and accurate box. there is no reason any of us should be guessing anymore. nothing worse than having a client ask, "is that in sync?" ... and then the trust begins to slide from there....

Re: Final Cut, DV Firewire, 192 I/O=Out of Sync
I generally don't do post and video is really more of a hobby/side thing for me. This time around, I'm helping the brother of one of my studio clients out with a promo DVD for his band comprised of short clips and no heavy automation in Pro Tools so it's fairly manageable. Nonetheless, the Syncheck box looks fantastic.
Thanks again, Tom.
