Default SSL outboard?

I may be in teh wrong forum for this but you guys are pretty good. I was browsing SSL's webpage today and came accros 2 peices of outboard gear. A 2 channel mic pre and a compressor. I searched every board and engine that I could find to try to get somemore info., but I cant find anything (the SSL page isnt much help). Obviously, SSL makes great stuff and I would think that their outboard equipment would be in high demand or at least talked about (such as Neve modules). But I have found nothing. Has anybody actually seen or heard of these things or even better, used these or have any idea on pricing? Any guidence would really be appreciated. Thanks

Do a search on the Web for Alan Smart. I think that's the correct spelling. Sunset Sound in LA is a/the distributer. I think his stuff is cloned SSL... the SSL Smart Compressor is held in high regard.

You're right though, if SSL actually makes outboard, you'd think we'd hear more about it.

I own an Alan Smart C2 compressor and previously owned an SSL stereo bus compressor...Alan was the original designer of the SSL consoles and designed the SSL compressors ..When he left, he refined and improved his orginal design and the C2 is the third generation of his improvements...Calling them SSL clones sounds like you are refering to them as knock-offs..

I have used the 2 channel compressor accros a stereo bus at mixdown. I nuce way to get some of the SSL sound without spending millions. A great piece of gear. Trust me, those that know about it, know about it. It has it's own sound, just like a Neve, or a Summit, or a Manley, or Avalon, just different.

Regarding the pres....If they are the same ones in the SSL consoles, then no one uses them. I have NEVER seen anyone in an SSL equipped room use a SSL pre. I guess if you can afford the SSL a few grand more for a better mic pre is peanuts. For that, I would look at Neve if you want a "sound" to it, Avalon or Focusrite if you want clean. There are other great ones, I have not used them though so I cannot suggest those.

SSL is for mixing. Nobody uses their mic-pres.
