Need help setting up Blue Yeti Mic in Pro Tools!
Hey guys, I just bought a Blue Yeti usb condenser mic to use with pro tools but I'm running into trouble with the setup and recording. I'm using Windows 7, and an M-Audio Fast Track interface with my PT 9. I have the Yeti mic defaulted in the windows sound playback and record settings, but when I create an audio track in PT and activate recording I get no feedback. The mic is on but I'm going no read in PT...I have nothing inserted in the audio track, but there's no blue yeti in any of the plugin lists. I went into the PT playback engine and my current engine is my fast track interface...Can anyone help me in setting this up? I'd really appreciate it as I'm out of ideas.

Re: Need help setting up Blue Yeti Mic in Pro Tools!
You must select the Yeti as the Audio Engine in Pro Tools. Windows does not allow for Aggregate audio devices. Since you already had an interface, why did you buy a USB mic? Would it not have made more sense to by a standard mic to plug into the FT?

You could also use ASIO4ALL, but that isnt going to take advantage of the low latency M-Audio drivers. It should work, however I would agree that you should probably see if you can take the USB mic back and get a normal XLR condenser mic.

Re: Need help setting up Blue Yeti Mic in Pro Tools!
God damn....I just can't afford to pay more for the Yeti Pro which has the XLR connection. So there's no way to use the Yeti usb with PT and Fast Track? That has me bummed because I really like this microphone...Maybe the Asio4all can help. I'm not recording vocals for every song I do, I just wanted to add another dimension to my music by singing every now and then.

I tried installing ASIO4ALL but it doesn't show up in Pro Tools...I ran as administrator, went into offline settings, but for some reason it's not being recognized, only Fast Track is. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Need help setting up Blue Yeti Mic in Pro Tools!
You can't use a USB mic AND Fast Track at the same time(on a PC anyway). If vocals are your primary concern, then I suggest saving your money until you can get a much better interface, preamp AND microphone. Its tough to record serious vocals without spending for a more serious solution than any USB mic or M-Audio interface(Profire2626 being an exception). Even the new Mbox is (IMHO) a major improvement over the FTP For the moment, what's you budget? Do you own any mics already? There are some surprisingly good "affordable" mics. The MXL V89(also available as the new CR89 for a higher price for the same mic in a new finish) is a shocker, and I just bought a new one from eBay for $218 with free shipping). I own one already and want to try the pair as drum overheads(but its a very good vocal mic).

Re: Need help setting up Blue Yeti Mic in Pro Tools!
Ok then should I turn off the Fast Track temporarily so I can record vocals through ASIO4ALL? My budget is 100-150...Fast Track has worked great for me so far, I don't think I need to change it. I was gonna record vocals with Asio then continue the project with Fast Track. If that's not possible then I might just return it for another condenser that's hopefully around the same price.

The Yeti Pro has XLR and USB which would work with my setup but it's more expensive (around 250)...

Why not return the USB mic and get an XLR condenser? You can get an AT2020 for less than the Yeti or the AT2035 for about the same. The AT2020 is inexpensive, but I actually like the one I have.

Yea looks like that's where I'm headed. Hopefully I can get a decent condenser for the same price. I'll look at the AT2020 if they have it at the store.
