Default What's New in Pro Tools Scripting SDK Toolkit 2023.3

We’re pleased to announce the immediate release of Pro Tools 2023.3, our first Pro Tools release of the year. This includes several new features and improvements to Pro Tools, which you can read about here:

https://www.avid.com/resource-center...ro-tools-20233

Together with these new features, we’ve included a number of new capabilities to the Pro Tools Scripting SDK, as well as fixed a nice collection of bugs.

We’d like to thank you for your interest in the Pro Tools Scripting SDK, and we appreciate you sharing your feedback since our inaugural release back in December 2022.

To take advantage of these new API calls and improvements, you will need to download both the latest version of Pro Tools and the Pro Tools Scripting SDK from your account:

If you’re brand new to the Pro Tools Scripting SDK, get started here:

What's New

Developer certificates are no longer required

You no longer need to obtain a developer certificate to establish a PTSL connection to Pro Tools. The new workflow allows you to connect via a simple registration command, RegisterConnection. AuthorizeConnection, which was used with certificates in previous versions of the scripting SDK, will continue to work, but has been deprecated and will be removed in a future release.

New commands

We’ve added new commands for Memory Locations; GetMemoryLocations, ClearMemoryLocation, and EditMemoryLocation allow you to query and set the following values:
  • General Properties for Zoom Settings, Pre / Post Roll Times, Track Visibility, Track Heights, Group Enables and Window Configuration
  • Time Properties
  • Reference in Bar | Beat or Absolute
  • Comments
  • Number
  • Name
There are new commands for clip re-naming; RenameSelectedClip and RenameTargetClip allow you to rename clips in the timeline and the clips list
In addition to being able to get and set the playback and record modes, you can now trigger playback and record in Pro Tools. The new API calls are:
  • TogglePlayState
  • ToggleRecordEnable
  • PlayHalfSpeed
  • RecordHalfSpeed
Also, Merge and To_Current_Automation_Type calls have been added to PasteSpecial

For more details about these new commands, refer to the SDK's built-in documentation.

Platform and language support

This release adds full support for Apple silicon with native universal binaries, so the Pro Tools Scripting SDK can now be used with Pro Tools running natively on Apple silicon.

It is also now possible to cross-compile on Mac to target different architectures.
