Default Pro Tools HD possible on a laptop?

Stupid question, I'm sure... but is it possible to buy Pro Tools HD and somehow run on a laptop?

I'm guessing that since it comes with cards, those cards have to go in slots in a desktop PC.

So them would something like the MBox 2 Micro do nothing for an HD owner? Or, do most HD owners also have LE running on a laptop so they can mix on the road with the MBox 2 Micro.

I'm just a lowly LE guy taking a peek at the possibility of getting into an HD system. I just wanted to make 100% sure that meant a dedicated desktop Mac and no ability to mix away from the studio.

Thanks,
Ron

I remember at one point there was an expansion chassis designed for use with a laptop -it had just a few slots. I'd check the current compatibility charts and see what chassis are qualified with TDM. I use Mpowered Pro Tools on a laptop for editing away from the studio. It's a pain having only 32 tracks on session that might actually over 100 tracks on the HD rig but I put the important tracks up top, maybe do a bounce of the drums and I can comp tracks at a cafe instead of the studio.

You'll need an older laptop (powerbook 1.67 for instance) and a Magma CB2 (with an updated cardbus card). This config will run HD2. Intel laptops have no solution yet. This older setup works great, 88.2/96 is no problem up to 45 tracks or so.

Apparently Magma has a 1 slot chassis for PCIe that works with a Macbook Pro. This would give you an HD1. I haven't tried it, but a search of the DUC came up with several threads. They have several 4 slot chassis in the works as well
