Pro Tools Hanging
I am running version 11.3 in Windows 7. I have 8GB of ram and an i3 processor running at 3.2 Ghz.. My external drive running at 7200 RPM is USB 3.
All too often, when I have a tune that has a moderate amount of tracks, say 40-50, Tools hangs up and I have to do a complete reboot. It has gotten to the point where I will export conslidated tracks to a fresh directory to finish mixing it. Are there any suggestions as to what I can do to prevent this problem? I'm not going to get a Mac so that's not an option. Thanks! |

Re: Pro Tools Hanging
My mistake. It is an i5. But now that I look at the internal drive, it is USB 2 at 7200. The name on itis Kingston Data Traveler. USB 2 is the issue. Thanks.

Re: Pro Tools Hanging
IIRC, a Kingston Data Traveler is a USB stick. Not going to work well for Pro Tools if it is.

Re: Pro Tools Hanging
You are absolutely right. I don't know what I was thinking of. The internal drive is a 7200 rpm WD, a SATA drive. I probably need to triple my RAM.

Re: Pro Tools Hanging
But what audio/session drive are you actually recoding to?
Why have you not posted a SiSoft Santra Report? Start at the "help us help you" link up top of every DUC web page, and do what is asked for there. That would have avoided most of this thread already. After the Sandra report note exactly which drive partitions shown in the report you are using for audio/sessions and for VI samples. Your problem may very well be memory, even if not you really should add more. Make sure you add it so you have identical DIMMs (each same part numbers from the same vendor) on each matching DIMM on a channel, even better on all slots. And make sure the DIMM meets specs/requirements for the motherboard. Is your computer fully optimized? Every last thing done? You do try basic troubleshooting like trashing prefs? If after adding more memory this still happens then suspect plugins first and try removing all third party plugins from the plugin folder. |
