003 issues

There is no question I'm going to sound like a newb, but I have searched and dug the web for a week triying to figure out what to do... avid support to this point is a joke! I purchased a used 003 and I was told software came with it... turns out it was just the instructional dvd. I also got a mac mini recording package at Guitar Center, which came with pro tools SE and a nice little bundle of gear. Now I have found out (best I can tell) that I need pro tools 10 because of the Mac OSX Lion and until I purchase it I can't use the 003 at all. Is this true? I am not a pin head when it comes to computers, but I had to bring in support (father in law is lead IT and he thinks this is all laughable!) I could steal the software and have him revert my Mac back to an older version (snow lep) but that doesn't seem right, especially since there will be a lot of young college students using this set up. I think avid should be able to pull my serial # send me pro tools LE or whatever came with it and let me pay for un upgrade to 10 or whatever works with my mac. I am not going to pay $80 to ask them for help buying more of their products. Has anyone else dealt with this? If so, what is your advice.

If the used 003 came with no PTools software, then you'll have to buy it.

What he said^^^ When you buy a used interface with no transfer of ownership, you tend to get zip in the way of support. The transfer of ownership is what allows you to register with Avid and access downloads(which for the 003 would likely be PT version 8, which won't run on Lion anyway). When you purchase PT10(or 9), you should register it with Avid and create a MyAvid account. When that is in place, you will have access to downloads of any products you are registered for(and any free updates for them that come in the future). As for SE, I don't know that SE works with the 003(check with the dealer on that one).
