Can the DB25 outputs be used as headphone sends?

Hey ya'll, can the DB25 (1-8) outputs on the Carbon be used as headphone sends/outs?

I'm thinking of going DB25 out to XLR and then using the Behringer P2 as headphone monitors (with a custom stereo cable XLR cable).

So, I'm guessing I'll be able to do 4 stereo sends (from the 1-8 outs).

Does that seem like it could work with the Carbon?

Wondering if anybody has used those outs like that before?

You should probably take a second to actually read the Carbon user manual. All your questions are answered.

But, yes, you can use any output for whatever you want. The Carbon control for headphones won't work with them (because they are specific to the Carbon headphone outputs) but the Behringer will have its own volume controls.

Bscout, if you're referring to the ProTools Carbon Guide, I skimmed through it more in depth. Thanks for pointing that out.

Here's a question that I can't seem to locate with in the guide:

The documentation says that the Carbon uses 28 out-put channels of AVB audio between Pro Tools | Carbon and third-party Core Audio–compatible software.

I'm wondering if the Ethernet port (NET 2) can be used to route audio to a Behringer P16M Personal Mixing System with P16D Distribution Module. I'm not privy on AVB, and want to learn.

Trying to figure out the best personal monitoring system that can work well with the Carbon (bypassing the analog headphone outs).

No. The Carbon uses a customized version of AVB that is incompatible with everything other than the one Carbon expansion unit. Pretty much it is proprietary for Avid. Doesn’t even matter if something else supports AVB — it won’t work with the Carbon.

And even if the Carbon had anything like a normal open AVB that still would not talk to the proprietary ULTRANET (presumably based on parts of AES50, but it's not AES50?) used on those Behringer boxes. All they share in common are RJ-45 connectors, along with lots of other incompatible systems.

Got ya, I figured.

I believe I found a solid solution.
The Behringer Powerplay p16 Input Module.

It has 16 channels of ADAT Input.

So, Carbon ADAT Out (1-8, 9-16) > p16 ADAT In should do the trick.

Hopefully this thread helps someone looking for a similar solution.

That should work, as long as you have enough ADAT channels to feed the headphone mixes you want at whatever sample sample rate you are running at.

Hi just to add a fact, you can not use the second port for that purpose as stated before but you can use it for for a mixer controller like the artist mix etc, and it works perfect !
