pt 8.0.3 - in a 32 bit or 64 bit kernel startup mode
/// Hello
::: Came across a software that generates info regarding your mac 64 or 32 bit kernel startup (or press 64 or 32 at boot)!! I am curious how the mac will run under a new setting of 64 bit kernel (snow leopard default is a 32 bit kernel boot mode) :: the reason is that i came across while checking activity monitor and noticed that my audio space bar previews are running of the quick look helper in 64 bit preview mode!! So what i am listening to on the desktop runs of a 64bit apps!! ps: Just ran pro tools 8.0.3 after booting in 64bit kernel and all is well!! I am constantly trying to find a way to improve performance and it's harder to get a minimum cpu% with snow leopard then it was with 10.5.8 but i am willing to move forward!! so any info regarding improving activity monitors performance and what trick is good to force quit with this utility soft:: I also ran idefrag this week for the first time and performance on track count is better!!! startup mode for 64bit application http://www.ahatfullofsky.comuv.com/E...s/SMS/SMS.html Apple’s website does a nice job of explaining the why http://www.apple.com/macosx/technology/ /// imac 2.4 intel duo core, 4 gigs of ram , mbox2, pt 8.0.3, 10.6.1 osx , lacie d2 quadra http://www.myspace.com/onepercentfree |

Not really, this is in regards to the as yet unreleased version of PT for Snow Leopard. You can get the pre-release (beta) but I would only recommend it to users who
1. Have a non-production machine to spare that can run snow leopard 2. Have the time to beta test for digidesign. Living on the bleeding edge only gets you cut.

Re: pt 8.0.3 - in a 32 bit or 64 bit kernel startup mode
i'm thinking i might test this out and finally install my copy of snow leopard. i use multiple daws so it shouldn't be that big of an issue for me. i'm guessing under 32bit it runs somewhat good but i'm very interested in what people have to say about 64bit and also the ram support for this in the beta!

Re: pt 8.0.3 - in a 32 bit or 64 bit kernel startup mode
haha that makes a big difference. so what do you guys think of snow leopard on protools and logic 9? i have a 1st gen mac pro so i'm running 64bit apps on a 32nit kernel. is it even worth it to update from 10.5.8 to SL?
