Default External Hard Drive Recommendations, please!

Hello,

I really need to buy an external drive. Please advise on brands, and any particular model that people have used and like. I have no experience buying external drives but i need one.

Here are my specs:

MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Mac OS X 10.5.7

MBox 2, ProTools LE 4.2.something

Any advice would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Cheers,
aerynn

Glyphs are approved, compatible with PTLE, bit expensive but wont give you any problem. PT 4.2???

While the majority of people have a preference for a particular brand, that's usually based on simply a couple of good or bad experiences. The fact is that there really isn't much difference between the brands when it comes to reliability. How long a particular drive will last has more to do with luck than anything else (so ignore MTBF ratings - they're completely meaningless). I use an ioSafe Solo which is waterproof and fireproof. It's a bit more expensive than a standard eHDD, but better protects your data.

HTH.

http://oyendigital.com/firewire-usb-...ard-drive.html

http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/on-the-go

Both of these have 7200 RPM 2.5' Drives that are buss powered. Both have Oxford Chipsets.

Both will be excellent.

Note: This link goes to a USB drive. USB drives are not recommended nor supported for Protools due to performance issues with USB. Firewire is recommended.

'nother +1 for macsales and OWC. I have a bus powered FW 800 that has been just fine and convenient for portability
