Digidesign Mbox 2 Micro
I was thinking of getting one of these to use on my MacBook Pro to edit and track soft synths while out of the studio. I like the concept of the Micro because of the portability factor and it is about the same size as an ilok. anyway I was wondering if anyone is using playback only interface with a MacBook Pro and how the performace is . . . USB kind of scares me but I would think it shouldn't be all that bad because it is playback only.

Re: Digidesign Mbox 2 Micro
Just bought a used one today for portable playback on my laptop, which has the Complete Production Toolkit. It's going to get velcro-ed to the lid. I carry around the laptop and a Roland Cube Street battery powered amp for actors to hear their music bits. The MBox was one thing too many.
The micro plugged in and worked instantly. Didn't even need the sellers software. |

Re: Digidesign Mbox 2 Micro
I have the MPTK2 what kind of track count could one expect from this interface? Would it be similar to my MBox 2 Pro?

Re: Digidesign Mbox 2 Micro
I bought mine as part of my upgrade plan from 7.4 -> 8.0.
I mainly use a 003. The biggest caveat is that the micro will not support the higher bitrates for tracks, so you have to stay at the 44/48 sample rate. One way we use it is to put a usb hub on the left side for the iLok and a Korg nanoKey, the micro on the right side and a bus powered FW 800 drive. This works great on car trips!

Re: Digidesign Mbox 2 Micro
I don't have the CPTK but the number of busses is a function of the software (and to a certain degree the performance of the hardware). The interface has nothing to do with it (there is not processing going on in the interface on native systems) so I would suspect the Mbox 2 Micro will work fine with 128 busses. Someone correct me if I'm wrong here.

Thank You for replying, I understand that CPTK is a function of the software and the internal busses is not affected by the hardware, I just not sure that the Pro Tools 8 LE with M-Box Micro 'as a dongle' is compatible with CPTK, I just affraid that the case like LE 8.03 is not compatible with first generation of M-Box 1 things. Thank You. |
