Not sure if your "Digi 003 Workstation" is the same as the 003 Factory and it is unclear as to whether the Mbox you are talking about is the USB version or the Mbox Pro (with FireWire).

But...

For what its worth - you really do not need two Pro Tools LE interfaces.
Although for me, it is nice to have both, as one is great for on-the-road travel and the other great for studio and full-blown recording events.

Did you already open up the software on one or both of these units?
If not, the place where you bought it should take it back (assuming that you bought it less than 30 days ago).

Since you live in the music capitol of the midwest, you shouldn't have a problem selling one of the units on Craigslist or even using eBay to unload the extra hardware.

That said, remember this quote:
Caveat emptor

Just put the Mbox and its Pro Tools disk, booklet and authorization code in the box and ebay it. The next owner can load it up and use it as long as they have the authorization code(the code that starts with DIGI0800.....(assuming its Pro Tools 8). Or maybe take the entire Mbox package and go have a conversation with the GC manager and explain how you were told you needed something you did not. Maybe the manager will treat you like a valued customer(since it looks like the salesman did not).

How long ago did you buy it? Are you using 2 computers simultaneously?

I'd talk to the manager and if you don't get satisfaction there, escalate until you do. Define exactly what you want to have happen FIRST so they don't push you into a corner. For instance, you should explain that you were pushed into this purchase based on their advice and they sold you something that is basically a duplicate of what you just purchased.

If you will settle for store credit, then tell them that - but be clear and concise in what happened and what you want.

i'm running PT on only 1 computer, so this is totally redundant. the mbox is the firewire version and both interfaces have been registered. and, apparently the government will not allow guitar center accept returns on registered hardware. so they pretty much told me it was my problem now.

700 dollars spent on nothing. i love it.

Even if he was, it's the hardware that matters. You can install the software on more than one computer, but it will only run on one computer at a time because it has to have the hardware attached.

And yeah that sucks that they won't take it back. Maybe post it on craig's list or even post it on the buy and sell section here. Just some thoughts.

Given the situation, that seems somewhat ironic.

Just out of interest, what did you ask the salesman at GC?

Did you say something like "I have a 003 and Pro Tools installed on one computer, I want to run Pro Tools on another computer, what do I need?"

We're all assuming the GC guy gave you bad advice but you haven't told us what you told him you were looking to achieve.

i told him i have a 003 running PT and needed to a central station to run other things to my monitors (like itunes and misc. audio from my mac which won't play through the 003 when PT is running). he sold me presonus central station then explained i'd still be needing an mbox for my "platinum vocals"... whatever that means.
