Anybody try any SSD for recording yet? Solid State drives look interesting but I am curious if they work good in the real world.
Great question..

Seems to be a big push in this direction, technology wise..

Lots of benefits, few caveats and the price/GB will come down if people start buying them..

I use a 7200rpm drive in my MBP and it works really well for recording to it. but I keep the drive pretty free of other programs and lots of space available to it, permissions always repaired.

FYI your battery life will be noticeably shorter once you go from 7200 to 5400rpm drive. At least it was for me.

SSD is great for random access because there are no heads to move - however audio is not random access...its very linear so once you jump to the starting point, the heads don't really jump around. SSD is actually not as good in performance over its traditional spinning cousins.

I have a MacBook Pro and original MBox.
On Digi's site it says to use a drive with Oxford 911 chipset.
I'm having a hard time finding a drive that fits this description.
Can someone provide a link to a retailer for such a drive. I'm only looking to spend $100 but maybe i'm way off. I searchrd google and newegg and found nothing at all, only enclosures, but i'd prefer something ready to go.
Thanks.

Check out OWC drives with newer Oxford chipsets at Macsales.com.

Did you mean your battery life will be noticeably shorter once you go from 5400 to 7200rpm drive?
