Default Older TDM systems and FW Hard Drive sizes.

I might be completely wrong, but I think I remember hearing that there is a to the size limit for Firewire hard drives used with older Pro Tools systems (001 and Mix/24 era.)

Is that true? I heard the limit was between 60 and 80GB

sorry you had to wait so long for an answer. I just signed up for an account yesterday. lol

I use a TDM mix cubed system running PTs 5 on Mac OS 9.

I'm able to see 160 GB FW drives without issue. I'm able to record 24 tracks of audio onto those drives without partitioning.

I can't remember but I thought the limit was 250GB. I've never tried anything higher than a 180 GB seagate in a Lacie d2 case.

Default Re: Older TDM systems and FW Hard Drive sizes.

the limitations has nothing to do with PT, but with the IDE controller. the older ones can see HD over 127 GB.

on mac, there's a little extention, called ATA Hi Cap that allows old controllers to see bigger HDs...

FYI, "older controllers" means G4 quicksilver and olders. The "new" ones came with the G4 MDD series. When it comes about a firewire or USB drive, well, hard to know...if it's an old FW or USB bridge... except if you bought after... let's say...2004 ?
