Default Pro Tools 11 HD native. OMNI interface setup

What is the best. most durable hardware connection for 5.1 surround sound monitoring/mixing. with 5 Yamaha HS5 studio monitors. trying to output from the Omni interface. via HD native. Pro Tools 11 HD.

Analog 1-8 (DB25. 25pin) snake to 8 XLR female/male outputs. Then 5 XLR cords into each yamaha monitor ? is this the best connection?

does the optical digital out connection, via omni interface, work in the case of connecting to Yamaha monitors for 5.1 surround sound mixing. and if so is that better/worse then connecting via analog 1-8 (DB25 snake to XLR).
Set up for Home Professional Studio. Primarily Film Post Production.

Are there any other ways to connect to the Yamaha monitors?

running Pro Tools 11 HD.

any insight is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Considering that the HS5's only have 3 pin xlr and 1/4 inch connections your only real connection would be via the 3 pin xlr's. So that leaves out the optical digital out from the Omni. I would never use the 1/4 inch connections in any speaker connection scheme - not all that reliable and can be prone to dropouts from oxidized contacts.

Don't forget bass management in regards to your subwoofer.

You don't need 2 separate cables (DB25 to xlr female, and then female to male xlr). You can just get a DB25 to XLR male, or DB25 to 1/4 TRS.

Here are some DB25 to XLR male:

And DB25 to 1/4 TRS:

I am not familiar with any problems using 1/4 TRS. From what I understand they are the same as XLR, with the additional ring sleeve providing the ground. They are not the same as a normal unbalanced 1/4, such as a guitar cable.

Also, as mentioned, you will need bass management, hardware or software. Software would probably be cheaper, with Waves sales right now. You can get Waves 360 Surround Tools for $372.99 at Audiodeluxe.com through Dec. 31st.

I have had problems with 1/4 inch trs. Not all connectors are properly made and make good contact with the 3 sections of the connector. They also tend to oxidize quicker than xlr's. Have had that happen, even with expensive cables.

Good catch with getting the right DB25 snake. Why have extra connections that you don't need unless for needing a length longer than is available.

thank you very much for the input. and links.

I see a 10' snake for under 100.. and then I'm thinking ill need 2 more xlr to xlr (for added length) to connect the Surround R/L speakers.

Thank u also for the subwoofer reminder. I was looking at that waves 360 already before as an option for surround monitoring/panning etc.
I then came across the maggot software, SPANNER. that looked like a great plugin.
http://www.maggot.co.nz/software/spanner.shtml
Does the SPANNER plugin give me the same abilities to monitor the subwoofer path as the waves 360 would? (software only)

and also have been looking at this bundle from isotope.
http://www.izotope.com/products/audi...iradvanced.asp
does this also give me that ability to monitor the subwoofer. (software only). Referencing mainly the ozone mastering suite, because that lets you master your mix in 5.1 surround. Will the subwoofer/LFE channel be controlled through this plugin.. or more like SPANNER. and/or Waves 360.
and the isotope bundle mainly just for the mastering of 5.1 surround.

Thank you much.
