Can't start Pro Tools after another application uses Digidesign hardware
Whenever I use other applications (Safari, iTunes, Wave Editor, etc.) that use the Digidesign hardware, I can't open Pro Tools HD. Even after I close out the other applications, I get the error message that the hardware is used by another application. I have to re-start the Mac before I can open Pro Tools HD.
The Digidesign hardware is what I need to use with the other applications, since this is my only path to my high quality monitors. How do I solve this? I have: - OS X version 10.5.8 - Mac 2.7 Dual PowerPC G5 - Pro Tools HD, version 8.0cs3 - Core card, 2 process cards - all PCI cards |

Have you quit the Digi Core Audio Manager too?

Re: Can't start Pro Tools after another application uses Digidesign hardware
Yup. This has just started happening for me as well. Core Audio is shut down. A -55 Error dialogue box pops up. "Can't acquire DSI Hardware" something to that effect. I tried trashing core audio prefs, but eventually had to reboot. I was running Bias Peak 6.xx before, quit and restarted PT. I am out of town now, but when I get home I will look further into this. I am running PT 8.01 with HD 2 Accel, on a 2.66 dual core Mac. OS 10.5.8. Anyone else see this lately?

I haven't done anything.............should I need to?
I haven't had to do anything before. I could switch between applications w/o a problem. |

Re: Can't start Pro Tools after another application uses Digidesign hardware
I have found I can avoid a problem if, after using other applications, I go to System Preferences --> Sound.
Just opening Sound seems to do it.......the lights on my converters jump (Digidesign HD is already selected in Sound). Then, I open Pro Tools HD w/o a problem. Are other users having to do this? |

Re: Can't start Pro Tools after another application uses Digidesign hardware
It is a p.it.a!!!
I have gone to Core Audio/Midi , removed digi hardware from those menus ( line out, etc), etc and it continues complaining once in a while. Now Toast goes to 48k even if everything was set at 44.1k at the sound control panel. Any help on this? Probably Toast got corrupted. Never had this problem with previous OS and PT versions.
