Default Re: Question about the Mbox Micro

Well, my Micro came today! But damn if I didn't think of something... I run LEOPARD on the machine that I was hoping to run it on! CRAP! Now i have to wait, or take my chances. And to top it off, I'm running 10.5.2. A little birdy told me that hopefully in a month or so the 10.5.3 release will come out and Digi will coincide Leo compatibility with that release. But we will see. I heard that Digi was all good to go with Leopard until Apple did something to the 10.5.2 release that somehow screwed up PT compatibility. But I don't know. Don't care! the point is... I don't think I can even use my micro until 10.5.3 and I'm cryin'!

Well actually even though you can't technically record with the Micro, you could use a USB microphone or "other" multichannel interface and record audio using GarageBand, Logic, Audio HiJack etc... and then import the audio/ tracks back into Pro Tools. I know it sounds crazy and long in the tooth, but it's technically possible.

SO maybe because I'm not recording, LEO will work fine. That's good news. I'll test it today!

That will be fine with me. I'm mainly using the Micro to practice my editing skills when I have down time. Learning keyboard shortcuts, making Macros to combine shortcuts, etc. I used to bitch about using the keyboard and mouse, but then realized it was my own fault for not learning all the shortcuts. There are a lot to memorize, but I think that by taking the time to do so, it will open up a whole new world for me. Plus, I just bought a C|8, so that should make mixing fun too.

The latest Waves and McDSP plug-ins also work (at least for me). Others may, but I am in the middle of a project right now and don't have the time to test them.

No that's not what it is at all. I'm a legitimate paying customer who shelled out $1200 for average hardware/ good software and don't like being tied to my desk. So I already payed for the software once, (not to mention however many upgrades / toolkits I've purchased (I think I'm up to 3 now) so why should I have to pay an extra $279 for the ability to use it where I please? I'm sure the headphone jack does sound better than what comes on a laptop, but whose really doing full mixes on their headphones anyway? I just want to be able to edit away from my studio space - and that doesn't seem like a lot to ask at least $2000 later. At the very least, I'll agree with the other gentleman that this editing on-the-go "privilege" is overpriced, being that it really doesn't provide anything else for many. I just don't think it's a good look when no other DAW / Audio editor on the market makes you pay extra for this so-called "privilege". Not to mention, I could really use that USB port for something useful.

Not trying to start an argument here or anything - just my $.02
